A struggling grade is often a struggling mindset
Many students who fall behind aren't lacking ability. They're anxious about exams, discouraged after repeated setbacks, or too afraid of being wrong to ask questions in class. Academic tuition alone doesn't fix this.
That's why House of Hows built in-house counselling into the same environment as tuition. A student doesn't need to be referred elsewhere or explain their situation to a new adult. Support is available where the learning happens.
Included with every tuition class
Counselling support is not a separate paid service. It's part of how we teach, because we don't believe academic results and emotional wellbeing can be treated separately.
Four areas we help students with
Exam stress & anxiety
Helping students manage nervousness before tests and exams so it doesn't get in the way of showing what they know.
Motivation & confidence
Working through the discouragement that builds up after a string of poor results, so students believe improvement is possible.
Study habits & time management
Practical support for students who feel overwhelmed by workload, helping them plan revision without burning out.
Parent-child communication
A neutral space for students to express what's really going on, with guidance shared back to parents where it helps.
Support that's built in, not bolted on
Tutors are trained to notice when a student's struggles look emotional rather than purely academic, and flag it early.
Students can request a private conversation with our in-house counsellor at any time, at no extra charge.
Support is built into the same environment as tuition, so a student never has to explain their situation twice to someone new.
Where a concern is beyond what school-based counselling can address, we work with parents to identify appropriate next steps.
